This movie has been released about a month ago in the US but this is opening night here in Malaysia. Its late but whatever. This movie sets off when aliens intercept video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war. They attack Earth using the games as models. Knowing that he must employ a similar strategy, President Will Cooper recruits his childhood pal, former video-game champ and home-theater installer Sam Brenner, to lead a team of old-school arcade players and a military specialist in an all-out battle to save the planet.
You gotta give it to Adam Sandler because this movie is yet another bad movie in his bad movie slates. I knew this was gonna be bad but I expected something so stupid its funny but what I got was something so dumb it disgust me. Seriously. The premise of the movie gave me hope and I thought its pretty creative but in the end I was left disappointed. At times, I felt like this movie is like rom-com where the boy was trying to impress the girl. The 1st and 2nd act was boring and nearly fell asleep. I was only focused on the movie when the aliens attacked. the 3rd act was better but still nothing much changed. I felt the movie dragged on far too long. There were a lot of flaw in the plot. Try to focus on the girl's son. He was useless plot device and there was one thing he did where the movie doesn't clarify properly. The casting was not bad. I can accept those guys and Peter Dinklage was great. I liked his acting. But, the characters were all so badly written. Kevin James is the worst on screen President. Josh Gad's character was awkward and ''yelly". I know they trying to be a grown up adult nerd but it was just stupid and annoying. Plus Adam Sandler was perfect at being Adam Sandler.
Ont the other side of the coin, I felt that this movie has a great action sequences. I really liked everything that has to do with the alien. It was fun. I really wish they kept the Pac-Man moments out of the trailers because it would make the movie so much better. At least in the terms of surprises. The graphic was good too. It looked real enough and I was not distracted by it.The music was good enough to make this game-come-to-life moment great.
This movie was bad but I can still find fun in it. There were some good stuff and I gotta admit there were thing that made me laugh. So I guess 'Mission accomplished' for the writers. I would rate this a 'C+'. Recommended for every 80's video gamer out there. I wish I had a talking Q*bert.
