Transported to a remote fortified outpost, Thomas and his fellow teenage Gladers find themselves in trouble after uncovering a diabolical plot from the mysterious and powerful organization WCKD. With help from a new ally, the Gladers stage a daring escape into the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with dangerous obstacles and crawling with the virus-infected Cranks. The Gladers only hope may be to find the Right Hand, a group of resistance fighters who can help them battle WCKD.
The Maze Runner movies can be the next 'Hunger Games' and it really had a lot of potential. The thing is, the movie tried and failed. It has great story but the story telling was not great. It was a bit boring and repetitive. We had the same kind of moments repeating throughout the movie. It was also felt like it was trying to remind us about the first movie over and over again. At first I was really into the movie but that toward the end, it got kinda boring. There were so many underdeveloped characters since this movie is all about Thomas. There was also a lot of death. The thing is their death does not mean much. It was like "sad... but whatever". The new character was good but one of them was kinda got left out by the second act of the movie. That's a bummer since he was so important at the start of the movie. The visual effect was cool but there were this one moment with the zombies really took me out of the movie. They suddenly cease to use practical effect like they did with the previous zombies we've seen. And yeah, this movie ended with no resolution. Its just that we have to watch the third one if we liked this one.
That being said, I actually liked this movie. I felt tense watching the first one and this movie up the stake and my emotions were stronger. This movie has better suspense throughout the movie even ,as I said, it kinda got really repetitive. There were better action in the movie. More running. There were zombies and explosions. The actors, Dylan O' Brien and the other did a great job. The characters was great although this movie really put their focus on Thomas alone making the others less developed. I could still feel his chemistry together with his fellow gladers especially Minho. They should really focus more on their relationship as friend so that everything that happens to them can make us feel sad and actually felt the lost. There were great visual effects (except the zombies part that I mentioned) and also great original score. Great but not iconic.
It was a fun thrill ride. There was action and drama and it should be just fun the whole movie. Don't expect to get a full resolved movie in the end because you are gonna go out dissapointed. I give this movie a 'B-'. A fun popcorn "young adult" flick which I really recommend if you have nothing to do in your life.
