I had the chance to watch this movie and here is my review of it. There might be some spoilers. You've been warned!
It's been nearly two years since Superman's colossal battle with Zod from Man Of Steel that devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne. Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.
OMG! This is movies is finally here. After 3 years of anticipation, finally we have come to this day where I review it. First of all let me just say that I actually liked the movie. I liked it a lot and it made me wanna watch it again. Here are the things that I like about this movie. First of all, this movie was masterfully shot. It was great looking movie from the start to end. Its something we can expect watching Zack Snyder's work. The action scenes were amazing. It was intense and amazingly choreographed. It sometimes felt like a CGI fest but it was still wonderful. The characters, Ben Affleck's Batman killed it, literally. He embodies the Batman character and dare I say it, he was the highlight of the movie. I liked how Jeremy Iron's Alfred and Batman communicate. All the comedy came from him. Cavill's Superman was great. So much improvement from Man Of Steel. He had more line and more emotion to convey this time around. Amy Adams was great. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman was awesome. I felt so happy when I finally saw her. Sadly, her grand entrance doesn't surprise me. Jesse Einsenberg's Lex Luthor was scary as hell. He brought the Luthor I wanted. The genius megalomaniac billionaire that we all love to hate. The soundtrack was great. I loved Wonder Woman's theme the most. Batman and Lex's theme was all present and they were astonishing. The easter eggs scattered through the movie was so many its impossible for me to spot them all. The cameos was great but I felt it was a bit shoehorned sometimes.
This movie is great but its far from perfect. As a DCEU supporter from day 1, I expected more from this movie. I had a great time, but I was asking my cousin who is a casual movie goer, he doesn't understand anything that happened in this movie starting from the second act. First of all, there were a lot of things that the trailer spoiled us with, which was stupid. Remember I said that the action was great? It was but building up to it took a lot of time. The pacing was off. It was steady at times then it started dragging then suddenly its quick. Its all over the place. There are some plot points where we weren't clear about. They had something happen and the left it with no explanation. They expect all of us to think of the reason ourselves which is not how things work. Sometimes I was there figuring out some other stuff about the movie while watching some completely different scene. There were also these dream sequence. It was good but a bit misplaced and it doesn't really move much story points forward. All of this happens because this movie was juggling so many things at the same time. They made Batman kill which is weird but I went with it. I talked bout shoehorned cameos? Yes there were a lot and it felt forced. It doesn't help the story but it set ups the next movies in line which was interesting but seems a bit out of place. Setting future movie does not really pays off well. Basically, all I want to say that the story was a bit messy and the execution was worse. I am pretty sure there is some other things I miss but this is my thoughts I am having right now.
I will see this again somehow and I am here hoping that I will like it more from my next viewing. I hope the 3 hours ultimate cut will shed some light on the problem they had in this movie. All in all, this movie was enjoyable and was a great addition to the DCEU. I will keep supporting it and definitely will recommend all of you to watch this movie. The Batman v Superman scene alone, was worth the price of admission. I'll give this movie a 'B' score for now. I'll see if I'll have any changes in the near future.
