In the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California, a rescue-chopper pilot, Ray and his wife makes a dangerous journey across the state in order to rescue his estranged daughter.
This movie was funny. Bad funny. It started really weak and awfully unrealistic. The situation in the scene were almost impossible and I felt stupid watching it and it happened in the first five minute. The bad things is, it started to get worse. I get it, Its not supposed to be realistic and accurate but this is the example on how ridiculous action can actually make a supposed great movie into a mess. The plot was a direct rip-off all the other disaster movie. Seriously guys I didn't buy all the bad things that happened to them because I felt it was fake. Its all CG and the situation they were in was always the impossible and it seems they did walk away unharmed and the plot give away a lot of the tension because we know what is going to happen. It the same thing over and over. Father trying to save child. A scientist tried to warn and all the other generic plot. The characters was also just generic. Its all the kind of person you will see in a disaster movie. The heroic father, the heroic boyfriend, the selfish man, the cute girl and the overly protective but useless mother. But still, the actors performances were good enough to make feel connected to them.I really felt their loss. The Rock, that kid Ollie and Blake was great. So thank you very much for kinda like saving this movie for me.
In all ridiculousness and the 'unbelivableness', the action was actually 'ok'. The situation was unreal but the actions were kinda fun and watchable although you know there is no way a human can do such things. It doesn't felt real but the feeling of excitement were there. I think that's good enough for me to actually enjoy the movie. The visual was good and the sound were spectacular. The earthquake looks real, the seismic movement was cool and I was the spectacle. This whole movie was a spectacle. Its easy to appeal to me on likability of a movie and a great shot of a crumbling city really made me like the move than I supposed to. The movie made me felt things I should after watching a disaster movie. I felt scared and worried for the characters and I believe that the beautiful spectacle and the great original score played a big part of it.
In the end this movie was fine if you are looking for some random free-time fun. I would grade this a 'B-'. Recommended to all Disaster movie lovers and Dwane Johnson fans because he rocked(pun intended) so hard!
